The lunch of the accolytes

And today's lunch was...not in work for a change.

The company for which I work buys lunch for us every day but Friday. So today - Friday - I gathered together two of my English pals, and we walked around the block to Fry's. It had been some time since we all walked out to lunch together.

Phil wanted a DVD burner in order to back up his vast digital image collection, which consists largely of his wife's left eye, his wife's dogs in their cage, and pictures of their hugely expensive domicile in vartious states of repair.

Phil had described his previous day's lunch to me already, but it was so worthy of repetition that I insisted he told Peter about it.

Here's Phil describing his Thursday lunch time trip:
"Well as you know I never have work lunches these days - I either go home or I walk out to get something, and recently I have been going to Fry's for lunch."
(I should point out at this juncture that Fry's is adjacent to a Quizno's sandwich shop and an El Torito. In addition to this, there is a Koo Koo Roo and a few other eateries on the next block. And we are two block from about six different restaurants on the same street as our office. But Phil chose Fry's as the ideal lunch venue)

Here's Phil again:
"Yes, so I went into Fry's and got a bag of Jalepeno (pronounced with a big jagged 'J' sound, and completely anglicised: JAH-LAH-PEE-KNOW) crisps and a bag of baked Lays and a bar of chocolate.
"Then when I went to pay the lady laughed and asked me if that was my lunch, and I said yes".

You would have thought at this point that she would have made an anouncement over the store speakers:"Has anyone lost a small boy? He's trying to survive by eating crap."

Frankly I'm surprised that the sales assistant didn't gather the whole staff of Fry's together so that she could point at Phil and say, "Look at this guy! He's specifically come into Fry's just to buy junk food for his freaking lunch!!!"

Terrifyingly, Phil is going to be a father in four months time. More on that in future bulletins.

Naturally Phil's re-telling of this tale was amusing to both Peter and myself. It was classic Phil, as you will come to understand as I regurgitate stories past, present and future from the treasure trove of Phil's eccentricities.

In the meantime...adieu.
